Energize Our Neighborhoods selected South Boise Village for upcoming projects. With great access to downtown, Boise State University and outdoor amenities like the greenbelt, the neighborhood is tucked between Broadway, Boise Avenue and the base of the bench. The neighborhood has a friendly and diverse mix of residents, from long-time homeowners to renters and students.
South Boise Village
Projects
Thank you to everyone who attended the Open House or mailed in your postcard. A total of 145 votes were received, and Energize will begin moving forward on the two projects that received the most votes.
Pedestrian / Bicycle Crossing
Focus Area: Transportation
This project will be on Boise Avenue at Manitou Avenue. It was selected based upon the following feedback:
- Better connectivity and safe access to amenities, like parks
- More pedestrian and bike-friendly
- Safer crossings on busy streets
Next Steps
Design for a RRFB crossing (Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacon) has been completed and approved by ACHD (Ada County Highway District). The city and ACHD are working to secure the necessary funding for construction.
Broadway/Federal Way Connection
Focus Areas: Healthy Communities and Transportation
This project is a partnership with Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) to assess the feasibility of dedicated bike/pedestrian facilities connecting Broadway Ave. and Federal Way. It addresses the following resident feedback:
- More pedestrian and bike-friendly
- Better connectivity and safe access to amenities
- Access to pedestrian-friendly walking areas, pathways and trails
Next Steps
The feasibility study was completed. The city submitted an additional funding application to the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) to continue developing this project. The goal is that the project gets added to the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), a short-range (7-year) capital improvement program of transportation projects. Learn more about the TIP.
Walking Path at Garfield Elementary School
(Broadway and Boise Ave)
The asphalt walking path was completed in August 2020 and will be an important asset for the school’s walking clubs and the surrounding community.
This project was selected based upon the following resident feedback:
- Access to pedestrian-friendly walking areas, pathways, and trails
- More green space/recreational opportunities
- More opportunities to engage and connect with neighbors

Community-Building Committee
Throughout the Visioning process, residents expressed a desire for more events/activities and more opportunities to engage and connect with neighbors, build relationships, and strengthen the sense of community. A committee of residents was formed to identify barriers, goals, and strategies for engaging and connecting residents. Developing a Shared Vision
A visioning event brings neighborhood residents together to develop a shared vision for where they live, work and play. No idea is too big or small; the goal is to think creatively and passionately about future investments that support the group's shared vision.
- Throughout 2018, stakeholders had multiple opportunities to provide their feedback. Using an online survey and in-person events, a total of 9 visioning events were held, with 160 total participants providing their feedback about neighborhood projects.
- In 2019, stakeholders were invited to an open house event and provided a mail-in voting option to prioritize neighborhood projects.
